Over the course of 2010, OpenSpirit.ca, a new initiative of our church, put out a call to the spirit of music within church members. We were looking for the best in new hymns and worship songs written by Canadian Lutherans and Anglicans. All were invited to share their original hymns, hymn texts and songs with fellow Lutherans and Anglicans across Canada. A series of prizes were to be given for the best juried selections. Selected contributors would be invited to share their hymns with the OpenSpirit.ca site.

The contest is now over. We thank all who submitted works to this competition. The jury was given a good selection of music to choose from and has decided to recognize the following submissions with awards:

The organizers wish to extend their thanks to all participants in this first Open Spirit competition. The goal of this event was to provide motivation and incentive for the sharing of musical worship resources. The OpenSpirit.ca web site is dedicated to this purpose of sharing original worship music resources and we always welcome your submissions. There are plans for another competition for 2011, so stay tuned.
